3. Getting, installing and running

3.1 Getting

As I said earlier, there are two different WLC versions. One that includes runtime VCL libs(static) and one that doesn't(dynamic). If you don't have the runtime VCL libs or don't know what I'm talking about, go for the STATIC version. If you already have the necessary runtime VCL libs, go for the DYNAMIC version.

3.1.1 Getting STATIC version (About 360KB)

Go to http://linecontrol.sourceforge.net and choose "Download" from the left menu. Scroll down the page and then click on 'wlc-2.0.3-static.zip'. Save the file somewhere on your harddisk. Remember where you put it!

3.1.2 Getting DYNAMIC version (About 40KB)

Go to http://linecontrol.sourceforge.net and choose "Download" from the left menu. Scroll down the page and then click on 'wlc-2.0.3-dynamic.zip'. Save the file somewhere on your harddisk. Remember where you put it!

3.2 Installing

Hopefully you'll now have a version of WLC on your computer. The next thing we have to do is to open and extract the necessary files from wlc-2.0.3-x.zip.

To do this you'll need a program to open zip-files. If you don't have one already, I can recommend WinZip . Download it here and then install it!

Now locate the wlc-2.0.3-x.zip file on your computer and double-click it. Inside the zip there are three files:

  • README.txt - Info about WLC
  • ReleaseNotes.txt - Info about what has changed from version to version
  • wlc2.exe - The Windows Linecontrol Client executable!

First, read the included README.txt (by double-clicking the file inside the WinZip window). Then 'Extract' all the files to somewhere on your computer. A good tip is to put it in e.g. "c:\program files\wlc\" and make a shortcut on your desktop/start menu/taskbar.

    3.3 Running

WLC is simply run by double-clicking the wlc2.exe file or the shortcut. The first time you run WLC you will be asked if you have read and understood the license conditions of WLC in the file README.txt.
